Video Summary
Scott Fletcher delivers a focused message on what truly drives sustainable success in Primerica: capability before unstoppable growth.
His first principle is simple but often overlooked — you must make money early. Income builds belief, validates the opportunity, strengthens recruiting conversations, and eliminates “imposter syndrome.” When you’re earning, you speak with confidence. When you’re not, prospects sense hesitation. Making money first ensures you can support your family while building and gives you credibility with new recruits.
Second, your team’s skill level will never consistently exceed yours. As the leader, you are the “master copy.” Your habits, strengths, weaknesses, work ethic, and competencies are duplicated throughout your organization. If everyone on your team behaved exactly like you, what would your organization look like? That question becomes a leadership mirror.
Third, achievement is capped by capability. If you want higher income, you must become more skilled. Income reflects current capacity. Growth requires intentional self improvement — especially mental development. Fletcher emphasizes that the mind is the most important muscle to train. Without continuous personal development, outside influences will shape your thinking instead of you shaping it intentionally.
The core message: Make money, build skill, improve yourself daily, and expand your capability. When you become capable, unstoppable becomes inevitable.

So Keith asked me to just spend a couple minutes with you. He told the story about when went out to see Hector years ago. And then just over the years building a relationship with Hector. What were some of the things that helped our business to grow? We’ve got leaders in here that do build their business all different ways, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. I really took to Hector when we first met him. I mean, the way he did things was really the way I felt like it should be done kind of thing. And so we just. Matter of fact, Wilma, just so you know, I don’t have that clicker, so you could, you can do it.
So we just, you know, we used a lot of his stuff over the years and it really, I felt like it made a big difference for our team. And so I’m going to share three thoughts with you this morning. Just some things that we worked with and you. Good. Okay. And the first one really was that you have to make money here. Like, we all know that, right? And it’s obvious and you’ve heard Hector say it, but even though we know it, we don’t. Like, we know it, but we don’t always know it, and it doesn’t always make sense. And so we just found that you have to make money here for a lot of reasons. One of them being that you just don’t know how long it’s going to take to build your business. And you can’t race against time and bankruptcy, right?
You can’t say like, well, you know, I’m going to make money. Yeah, I know. But your family is counting on you to make money now, right? You have to make money here because you have to prove the model. When you spoke to somebody, you told them, hey, you know, how’d you like to make an extra thousand a month part time or a career change if the money was right? Well, if that’s not happening for you know, you get like, I think we call it like an imposter kind of mindset, right? You feel a little weird about saying it because you’re like, hey, you know, it’s not really working for me inside you. Like, it’s that thing inside our head that’s always talking to us, right? So when you’re prospecting people, new people don’t ask you like, well, how many directs do you have?
What do they ask you? Are you making any money? Right? And whether you’re making money or not, your face always tells the truth, right? Even if you’re not. You’re like, well, I have to overcome objections about why I’m not making money. Like, think about that for a minute. So we have to make money. Now, some people, like, if you’re a recruiter, you know how Hector, we had a conversation once and he would say, you know, in order to be a builder, you have to be a recruiter. But just because you recruiter doesn’t make you a builder, right? So you have to be. If you’re a recruiter. Yes, I get it. The money is going to come. It absolutely will. But more money is going to come. Not the first money, right? So we build teams, we recruit people.
We build people so that we can teach them what we do and multiply the efforts. But the initial effort of making money has to be there, right? Just makes sense. And I think sometimes for some reason, we skip that part. I think that when you make money, you know what to teach your team. So when you’re struggling to make money, what are you teaching your team? And Hector talked a lot about that, right? Hector talked about, you know, you can’t teach your team what you don’t know how to do. So with this month, we’re trying to get over 800,000, and when I look at the people in front of the room, clearly, if I knew how to make a million, I would be doing it right. I’m not holding back for tax purposes, right?
And so if you’re making 20 grand or 50 grand or 100 grand or whatever it is you’re making that because that’s what you know how to do. If you knew how to make more money, you’d be doing it right. And I’m not saying you know how to make money, but you’d be having that result already. So we just find that, like, we’ve always preached cash and we’ve. I just had a conversation in the last 24 hours with somebody who’s full time and the wife’s not happy and, you know, their cash flow is not where they is, and they may have to go back and get a job and just. You got to have a making money mindset to things, right? By the way, some of you said yesterday, who is that making that noise? That’s Shelly. How did you not know that? That’s Shelly.
Like 10 people yesterday. Where’s that noise? Hector was up here. He’s like, where is that car from? Jesus. And he was right here, too. Second thing, your level of skill set will determine your team’s level of skill set. You are the Leader of that team, what you’re competent in is what they copy, right? Joe Ensor, Joe Enser’s been quoted now a couple times this weekend. He, Joe Wentz, you say speed of the boss, speed of the crew, speed of the captain, speed of the ship, right? So as good as you get, the best you can hope for is that people will better, but more than likely your own skill set caps where they go. So you gotta make sure that you are the leader in capability as you go forward.
You know, Jimmy, Jim Meyer used to do something years ago called the master copy, right? We are the master copies for our team. We’re the master copies for the good things we do. We’re the master copies for the not so good things we do. All of you that have kids, right, do the kids just copy you when you’re on stage or do they copy you when you drop your guard? Right? So same with our teams as we go forward. You know, if, and Hector mentioned this yesterday, if everyone on your team behaved like you, what would your team look like? If everybody on your team had the same skill set as you, what would that team look like? And if the answer is, hey, there’d be a, it’d be a kick ass team, like, okay, great.
If the answer was like, wow, that’d be some team that may not be good, right? So you got to keep your eyes on that. We’ve always tried to do that as best we could. And the last thing I’ll say is that you’re only going to achieve what you’re capable of achieving. So if you want to achieve more, you have to become more capable, right? Self improvement. Keith talked about with Jason and PFS Media. You’ve got to be conscious about your self improvement journey. No one comes here as the finished product. We come as human beings. But really human becomings and the journey that you have in the way you develop and your mindset and all that stuff is really where you’re going to go, right?
And so I, we found over the years that if were not always working on self improvement, the rest of the world was working on us. And so for me especially, you know, I had to work the most important body part that I had and that was the one right up here. And we are in an environment in this world where there’s all kinds of messages that are getting sent to us. There’s all kinds of messages getting sent to our teams. And if we’re not countering those messages with the stuff that will make us money, give us success, we’re going to lose that battle. And so proud to be your teammates. Guys, have a great day today. Thanks for listening.
