In this business 31 years.
31 years ago, I came from the military.
I mean, I used to fly helicopters for a living.
My wife Yvonne used to jump out of them airborne, all that good stuff.
And we left the military because they’re gonna station her somewhere, they’re gonna station me somewhere else.
And we moved to Atlanta, Georgia, looking for what, opportunities.
And went into Atlanta, Georgia.
And the reason we moved to Atlanta, I said, man, that’s where the Super Bowl is coming in, the Olympics coming.
That’s where the opportunity I could fly for the police department, I could fly for the hospitals, I could fly for news and all that stuff.
But a friend of mine in Panama basically said, ed, when you get to Atlanta, go check out this company called Primerica.
And the reason behind it is because I left with the severance package and I had somebody to say, hey, listen, go over there, find a company called the Primerica and let them show you.
Check out their investments so you can learn how to do what to do with this money.
Otherwise you’re going to be like everybody else, you’re going to spend it.
And I’m like, Man, I got no time for that, man.
Let me go find a job.
I went out there into a land looking for a job, and I came across a Primerica office.
I walked in the door looking for investments, and the RVP looked at me as I’m walking in and said, hey, are you here for an opportunity? You’re interested in making money, being your own boss, having your own business, being financially said, being financially wealthy? And I said, what you got? And he sat me down and he gave me the whole he said, hey, listen, this is who we are, what we do, how we do things.
And I truly got excited.
I looked at this thing and I said, finally, I’m going to learn how to take care of my own stuff.
And I went home excited, and I talked to Yvonne and I said, babe, you need to come and take a look at this thing.
I mean, if this turns out the way I think it should turn out, we got a shot at becoming wealthy.
And she said, doing what? And that’s when it hit me.
That’s when I looked at her and I said, I don’t know.
I don’t know what this is all about.
It just feels good, you know what I mean? It just feels good.
But come with me and let me have this guy show it to you and tell me what you think, because it sounds too good to be and I brought Yvonne over the next day and I said, because, you know, these ladies, especially Puerto Rican ladies, Hispanic ladies, they come with a third eye, they can see through people and all that.
And I said, come with me and check out if this guy is pulling my leg or something brought over the next day.
And I said, Ward, show Yvonne what you showed me.
And then he did.
Yvonne is who we are, what we do, how we do things.
And Yvonne looked at him, looked at me, and she said, ed, let’s both do this.
If we don’t give it a shot, we’ll probably be wondering for the rest of our lives, man, what if that thing would have worked out? Or we’d probably be like, if it doesn’t work out, hey, we could go find another job somewhere.
And we came into the business.
But before we did that, I looked at the guy, and I said, hey, listen, honestly, because I found out he was in the military as well.
I said, Listen, Ward, can I make money doing this? He said, how much you want to make? I said, I don’t know.
Between both of us making about 70, 80,000.
Can I make that type of money here? This is 92.
And he looked at me and said, Is that all you want? I said, Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Hey, if you don’t think 80 90,000 a lot of money.
How much you make? And this guy looked at me, and he said, I make about 10,000 a week.
Said, 10,000 a week? Ding, ding, ding, ding.
52 weeks in a year, you make 500,000 doing this, half a million doing this.
And he said, yeah.
I said, do I have a shot? And he said, man, the only thing I can’t give you is a desire to win.
You got to come with that.
And that’s when it came.
And for the second time in my life, I said, I can do this.
I can do this.
The first time I said, I can do this is when I married Yvonne.
I met her, and I like, I can do this.
I can do this.
I can do this.
And we came on board, and we basically I always wanted to have a business that I could pass down to my children’s.
Children, you with me? And this gave us that opportunity.
And went to work, man.
We went out there to work, and all I did is I was looking for people that were interested in doing what we do.
And I would talk to someone, hey, you’re open for opportunities.
You’re interested in making money? And most people would say, what? Yeah, hey, how can I get a hold of you? And I would just get a number, and I would just say, hey, I’m going to give you a call.
Let’s see if we get together, and when we get together, let me show you what we’re all about, and tell me if it’s for you.
If it is, great.
If it’s not, that’s okay, too.
And that’s how we did it.
And I would talk to other folks, and I said, hey, you’re open for opportunities, and they would look at me and say no.
Remember, I’m looking for people that are interested.
And when I talk to someone and say, you’re open for an opportunity.
You’re interested in making money, if they said no, I would look at them straight in the eyes and I would go, hey, how about you? You’re interested in making money? Because I’m not interested in the ones that said no.
I’m not there to park myself and try to convince.
I’m looking for whom? The ones that want to do it.
And we kept doing that.
And we kept doing that.
And a lot of folks said no, but others said yes and we kept doing that.
Two years down the road were RVPs.
Four years down the road, we’re making 100,030 years down the road.
The guy didn’t lie to me.
He was making 10,000 a week.
Now we’re making 20,000 a week.
It worked.
And our job is to teach others how to do that.
For example, you got Eduard and Gabriella Fena.
This guy made 48,000 last month.
And he’s got a young man over here, look at him right there.
This young man here.
Layton brown in.
Veronica.
This 27,000 over.
I think tonight he’ll go over 250,000.
Becoming the senior leadership, folks.
And this is what it’s all about.
It’s about teaching others how to make money, teaching others how to become financially independent, teaching others.
You with me? And today, here we are in Tampa.
We currently have 18 RVPs, and our goal now is to open up 18 more.
We’re looking for 18 more.
Why 18 more? Why not? Why not? And we know we can do that because yes, we can.
You with me? Yes.
You just got to believe it.
You got to own it.
You got to take it inside and say, I’m going to take this.
I’m going to run with it.
If it happened to me, it could happen to anyone.
You just got to put in the work.
And what is the work? Go talk to folks.
Hey, you’re open for an opportunities.
You’re interested in making money? Yeah, come on.
How can I get a hold of you? Let’s get together.
Let me show you what we’re all about.
And now back then it was now you got zoom and you got all this other stuff out here.
It’s quicker.
It’s quicker now.
Okay.

And that’s how we did it.

Really? I mean, when you walked in here, did you look at that and you say, you know what? Yes, I can.
Did you say that on account of three? I want to hear everybody say yes, I can.
One, two, three.
Yes, I can.
That sounds incredible.
Guys, you know that as I stand in here, I’ve always wanted to do this.
I wanted to put my hand up here so you guys can see my no, I wanted you guys to see my ring.
Okay, let me tell you why that is such a great deal and accomplishment for us.
Because when ed and I walked into a Primerica office 31 years ago, all we wanted to do was make an extra $2,500 a month.
And I’m telling you, to us, just the system that we saw in place and the stuff that we saw that we could do in this company immediately brought us belief that we can do this.
Yes, we can do this business.
It’s not that hard to do.
And I’m going to cover three specific things that helped us in our belief system because this is important.
You can make a decision today that, you know what? I’m sick and tired, I’m going to go for it.
But it has to be an internal change and a change up here for you to say, this is it, I’m going for it.
I can do this thing.
And let me tell you when that happened to us.
The first one in here.
Oh, I think do I get a what? Do I point back there? Okay.
No, not that.
How do I go to the top? Okay, let me see.
Here we go.
The first thing, guys, our belief was driven by what was most important to us, also known as our why.
As long as you hear from ed and I from toga speak, guys, we’re going to talk about our why because there is absolutely nothing else out there that drove us to get to the million dollars like our why.
And the first why for us was so important and I had shared that with you many times.
Justin, can you help me? Okay.
So the first one, you know, this is a famous know because I show it all the time because at the time, we all look cute in here, right? But the reason I show this in here, because when we came in here, guys, I did not come to Primerica to build a team.
I did not come to Primerica to sell insurance, to sell investments.
I did not come in here to do any of that stuff, even though that is the system and that’s what we do to get to where we go.
I came here because we saw a chance to provide a better life for Jason and Eric that at the time were five and seven years old.
You got to have something bigger than yourself, guys, because when you go out there and somebody dares to say no to this amazing opportunity and you let that get into your hand, you got to have something bigger and stronger that pushes that out and doesn’t allow it to get to your heart because that’s extremely important.
You know what went to work because we wanted what every parent was out there.
I wanted a nice neighborhood for our children.
We wanted to send them to private schools.
That is not unreasonable, guys.
Those are the things that were not able to do at the time.
But it was so important to us.
We wanted freedom of time because being in the military, I’m telling you, were making money, but were not enjoying it because ed was gone all the time and when he came home, I was gone.
So it was very difficult.
And freedom of time was important to us.
We wanted money, but we wanted money that we could save money, too.
Not just to blow money, not just to put up or keep up with the jones, whatever.
It was important to us to save money, too.
And something else, it was so important to us to make money and enjoy life.
I don’t want to save and then realize after a while I got a lot of money saved up, but I did not enjoy my life.
So again, that was our why.
And went to work and we work extremely hard for the next several years and accomplished that.
So I tell you right now, my question to you is, do you have a clear concise picture of what your why is? And if you don’t, you need to sit down.
And that’s where you start tonight.
Because everything else that you hear in here and doing here is not going to make sense unless that settle why are you here? Why do you come in here on a Friday night and you’re going to stay on a Saturday, too? That is extremely important.
But I tell you that it is important that you get that done.
The second thing is when ed and I found out about all this amazing system, the next thing that we needed to do was we needed to figure out how this new found.
Okay, here we go.
You had it right there.
Got it, honey.
Here, you can help me click this thing.
Oh, no.
Okay.
How are we this newfound system to work for us? Let me tell you guys, there is a million ways that you can have success in Primerica.
A lot of ways, and that’s what I love about this company.
But let me tell you have to figure out extremely fast how is it going to work for you.
And I tell you, we are experts at figuring out things and I’m going to prove it to you.
If you look at this in here, anne and I, when we had our kids, we didn’t know anything about anything.
And we figure it out.
For example, look at these pictures in here.
The first thing in here, oh, I don’t know if you can see it very good, but on the top, ed came to pick up me at the hospital when we had Jason on a Corvette and no car seats.
Okay? Very soon did we figure it out that we got to get that going, right? There was not a manual.
Nobody sat down and taught us we figure it out because some people have done it before and they were willing to teach us on the top.
Look at me in the upper right hand corner sitting with my son on the front seat of the car.
Would I go to jail right now if I did something like that? But you know what? I figured it out that’s dangerous.
I got to put him in the back if I want this child to survive.
But then my favorite one is at the bottom.
If you see in there is Jason grabbing a beer.
Hey, they told us we need to give them hydrated.
That’s the word.
Thank you.
They say you need to keep them hydrated.
We didn’t know, right? But the second he got drunk at age one month, we figure it out.
I’m just kidding, guys.
But I’m telling you what, I show you there.
And then of course, we didn’t know we could blow dry his hair.
So Ed put a sock or something in his head just to make his curly go.
I tell you this, guys, because this is funny, guys, but I’m telling you, in this business, it’s the same way, guys, don’t count on just your uplines telling you everything you got to do.
Go out there and figure it out.
There is something huge on the other side of figuring out things.
We just got to go out and do it type thing.
So the next thing I tell you, that 100% guys, of what you need to learn in this business, it’s already invented.
It’s proven, it’s in a system.
All you got to do is plug in and you’re going to be able to succeed in here, too.
So honestly, guys, this is not really hard.
This is a simple business, and you can do so good at it.
Now let me look back at just doing that stuff, figuring out things.
Some of the things that were able to accomplish, these are the things that we figure out on a daily basis, guys.
Number one, we showed up to everything.
I congratulate every single one of you for showing up to this in here.
And you know what? Don’t make this let me hear for yourself, guys.
This is a big deal, okay? I cannot tell you how many people come to us and they’re like, how did you guys get there? How do you guys do it? It’s almost like wondering if there’s a special secret that we’re going to tell them.
No, the secret is we showed up to everything.
Everything.
PLPP had a meeting.
We showed up.
Primerica had a convention.
We showed up.
Because you know what you do in showing up, there’s three things you do.
You learn about whatever it is that they’re teaching.
But most important, you’re going to build relationship with people that are going to be your friends and your buddies in battle from now on.
People outside don’t know what we’re doing in here.
You need to get to know these people here because they understand what you’re going through.
They understand where you’re going and they’re going to push you just like you’re going to push them too.
And also, guys, you’re going to make connections with the movers and shakers of Primerica because at any point in your career, you are going to need somebody up there that can help you get through a hurdle that you’re going through.
And if you don’t know these people, it’s going to be harder for you.
You’re going to have to depend on your upline.
So show up to everything.
Guys.
We knew that on a single day, we had to add new team members to our team.
So we figure out we got very creative about ways to find people.
We went into kitchen tables, appointments every single day, both of us did.
And most important, we made money.
I don’t understand.
Guys, I’m going to tell you something.
How can somebody have a license and don’t make money? I don’t understand it.
I really don’t.
Because when I got my license in here, the only thing I saw a treasure in my hand that I study extremely hard.
Guys, getting that license is a big deal.
You guys are winners already.
By having that license, putting it to work is what’s going to move you to another level of yes, I can in this business.
Because when you start helping people with that license, you’re going to realize the bigness of what we do.
You make money and you realize how you’re changing your family’s life.
And that’s when it’s over.
Let me tell you that the first time Ed and I made $13,000 in one month, I thought we had died and gone to heaven.
I’m telling you, I’ve never seen anything so beautiful in my life.
This is what I mean by so beautiful.
The fact that I could pay, and the number in there was not in red.
Oh, my goodness.
That was amazing.
And I liked it.
We liked it.
We liked what it could do for our family.
And we say with this license, we are putting it to work every day to produce for our family because that’s what you should do.
It’s not a decoration on your wall, guys.
It’s not what it is.
So we made money with that.
Now, because of what were doing on a daily basis, we became RVPs.
We knew we could do it.
We developed other leaders.
We became $100,000 earners.
And the level of belief increased a little bit more.
Every time you achieve a milestone in this business, guys, your level of belief increases and increases.
My question to you is, are you going to say tonight I am not playing around.
I’m just going to figure this thing out.
You should write that and you repeat it.
I am not playing with this no more.
I’m going to go for it and I’m going to make it happen because it is your time.
Guys, how many more times can you come in here and watch the speakers deliver for you? When is it going to be the time that you are going to come up here and deliver for me with your testimony, with the things that you’re doing? That’s important, guys.
You owe it to yourself and you owe it to the team.
I got to move to this really quick in here.
I’m sorry.
Okay.
And then the last thing is and the most important, guys, that I love it is every time we spoke about how worth it is, it going to be when it happens.
That’s what you need to think about all the time, guys.
When you think about yes, I can.
Don’t be thinking about the stuff that you have to do on a daily basis.
Think about how good is it going to be.
Let me show you a couple of pictures in here of how good it is for us.
You know how good it is to watch your children succeed.
You know how many parents would give anything to have their children really succeed in here and we get to watch ours do that.
And you know how amazing it is to watch your children find amazing partners that are going to come along their side to help them succeed too.
And now we’re going to win as a family.
You know how amazing that is, guys? That’s how good is it going to be.
And you know what is even better? To win together.
You know that were all at my house when we crossed the million dollars and there is a clip going around and I’m telling you, if you haven’t seen it, I don’t know if they can still watch it or not.
Maybe we can post it somewhere again.
But I’m telling you that was one of the most beautiful moments in our life.
Not the million dollar guys, because people have made a million dollar and they have lost a million dollars.
The fact that one day Ed and I walked into an office, we believe that it could happen for us.
We turned around and said, yes, I can.
We went to work.
And therefore the rewards that have come to us because of that decision is about wearing this ring today.
It’s about changing the lives of other people that are coming behind us.
Because I’m telling you SS I’m representing toga I’m telling you who we’re representing here, the amazing aviators that are sitting in here.
