Video Summary
In From Distractions To Dreams: A Guide To Consistent Growth, Leighton Brown delivers a high-energy training focused on momentum, discipline, and eliminating distractions within Primerica. His central message is simple: momentum is fragile. If you do not feed it daily, it leaves. Growth in this business depends on protecting and accelerating momentum through daily contact, consistent recruiting, and focused execution.
Leighton emphasizes the importance of being the loudest positive voice in a new agent’s ear. The outside world will introduce doubt, negativity, and discouragement. Leaders must shield their team members with constant communication and fast promotion goals, such as reaching District Leader within days. Speed creates belief, and belief creates growth.
A major theme in his talk is focusing on people who want to win rather than people who merely need to win. Need does not drive action—desire does. He introduces the Triple C framework: coachable, credible, and competitive. True coachability is not claiming to listen; it is doing what your coach says the first time. Credibility means being someone others trust. Competitiveness means wanting to win—not being satisfied with participation.
Consistency is the backbone of his philosophy. He stresses showing up early, staying late, dressing professionally, keeping cameras on during meetings, and committing to daily self-improvement. These actions require little talent but create massive separation over time. He also reinforces the importance of closing—professionals get paid to close, not to present. Always be closing.
Leighton challenges leaders to adopt a strict scheduling discipline. There is no such thing as balance without structure. Quality time, gym time, business activity, and personal development must all be scheduled intentionally. He advocates a reward-and-punishment lifestyle inspired by the teachings of Art Williams and the philosophy from The A.O. Williams Way. Results earn freedom. Production earns celebration.
One of his most powerful lines defines distraction: a distraction is not a distraction until it stops distracting you. Distractions—whether habits, environments, or relationships—slowly destroy dreams over time. Eliminating them is essential for consistent growth.
He closes with a strong competitive message: winning should matter. In business, fitness, finances, and life, striving to win creates excellence. Momentum plus consistency, combined with the elimination of distractions, leads to sustainable success.

So, yeah, guys, so I’m talking about catching a wave. If you guys don’t mind following me on social media, go ahead with a clicker. So, guys, so the first thing I want to talk about, guys, is momentum, guys. And the first thing I want to say, guys, momentum is like a jealous girlfriend, right? Guys, momentum is like a jealous girlfriend, guys, if you guys don’t give it attention, she will leave. Right, guys? Guys, listen. In our in our business, guys, momentum is everything. Momentum is how you grow your business, how you move your business, how you pick your business back up. That that’s everything in our business. So, guys, one of the things that we do, guys, to keep momentum, catch momentum and keep going with it, we got to talk to our agents daily. Guys, you got to be the biggest voice in your new person’s ear.
Guys, when they go out there in the regular world, guys, you got to shield them with armor. They’re going to listen to their broke auntie, their uncle, someone tell them, don’t do Primerica. Someone that’s not living a life they want to live, and they want to listen to that person. You got to make sure you talk to that person them so they can be strong when they go out there. Guys, one thing I talk about, guys, is, hey, get to district in three to five days. When I first started Primerica district leader to do three by three, the max was $300. Now people get 600 $900 bonuses. So, guys, we talk about get to district leader fast as possible. Guys, one of the biggest things in our business that a lot of us do, guys, we spend the wrong time with the wrong people. Guys, you want to make sure, guys, you focus on people who want to win, not people who need to and people who want to win because do people ever do what they need to do?
No, right, guys? Y’all wake anybody do what they need to do, right, guys? People do what they want to do, right, guys? Guys, we got to constantly setting appointments. Anybody ever had that person or business that want to ask you a million questions?
Yes. Right?
And don’t set any appointments. You ever have someone say, hey, coach, what book should I read? What book should I read? Right?
Yes.
Guys, my response to that, guys, is book an appointment.
You guys follow me.
That’s the biggest thing, right, guys? It’s easier to stay up than catch up. It’s very easy to stay up, guys, than to catch up. Guys, a lot of people in this business, they’ll be doing well, life happened to them. They get down, they stay down forever. And now you become a nameless, faceless RVP. Does anybody in here want to be a nameless, faceless RVP? No. Right, guys, next slide, please. Next slide, guys, awareness. Guys growing up, right? Who in here believes that life’s about being at the right place at the right time. Who in here believes that? Right, guys, you’re wrong, right? Guys, life’s about being in the right place at the right time. And you got to be aware of it. You got to understand this room. Some of you guys came from thousands of miles, flew buses, right? Probably walked right in a room with 20 people.
Guys, you got to have the awareness that this is your destiny. Like Reggie said earlier, guys, you got to as a superstar. Guys, one of the biggest things to recognize superstars in this business is you got to know how to pick out the LeBron James. You got to know how to pick out the superstar. You got to know how to pick out that person that wants to run, not walk. And guys, we call the Triple C’s in our business, right, guys, the Triple C is being guys, you want to work with people who are coachable, credible, competitive. And guys, this is not for entertaining. Guys, this is for training. You guys know I’m not the motivational speaker. Guys. I’m going to come up here and leave you guys with something valuable to take back to your business. So guys, you want to work with someone who’s eager to learn, who’s asking you a lot of questions about the business, who want to get to the next level, people who are coachable.
And guys, listen, first thing, if you say you’re coachable, you’re not coachable. So you’re in this room saying, I’m coachable. You’re not coachable. Guys, let your coach tell you that you’re coachable. And guys, the only definition to coachable is doing what we actually do the first time.
That’s it.
That’s the only definition. It’s not, hey, come to TBLs while come to the next one. You’re not coachable. Hey, buy ten tickets while buy one, you’re not coachable. Guys, being coachable is doing what we actually do when we actually do it. Guys, people who are credible. Guys, you want to work with people like Art Williams. I was blessed to grow up in our office where Greg Fitzpatrick and he taught us out the AO Williams way. If you guys have not read the AO Williams way, guys, you definitely want to read that book. Guys, you want to work with people who are credible. Art Williams said you want to work with people. People that can walk into the back door of someone’s home, right? Guys, you want to work with people like that, guys, people who are competitive. Guys, who here is competitive, guys, if you’re competitive, guys, don’t let next TBLs come by and you’re not on the stage.
Guys, recognition is not for the people on the stage. It’s for the people who did not get recognized. And if your butt is not burning for not getting recognized, guys, you’re not competitive. Guys, even coming up here, guys, you’ve seen that some of the recognitions, right? Our team got three and two. Yes. I’m excited for legacy, right, guys? I’m excited for all of us, guys. But listen, in this business, you should want to compete to be number one, right, guys? Who wants to be number one? Right? Who wants to be number one? Guys? Even coming off the stage, right, guys, there’s some people that I was talking to walking stage like, yeah, man, you’re number four. Number five. I say, listen, being number four, number five, number ten. Being number five, guys, that means you’re the fourth loser.
Do you guys follow me?
Guys, Primerica is not the YMCA.
Do you guys follow me?
Right?
Next slide, guys, be consistent, guys. One trait that you want to develop, guys. And Coach Edward used to call me Mr. Consistent. I’m going to work my butt off until I can earn that name back. Guys, you want to be consistent, guys. Say consistent. Guys, you want to be consistent, guys. Being consistent with the things that doesn’t require a lot of talent, guys. Showing up early and staying late, guys, why is every time see building up to coming to this event, right, where Andy, within a month prior, Andy, his amazing wife, made $91,000 in a month, right? And I was talking to some people about coming to TBLs coming up here, and I said, hey, what do you have? What do you have to do that’s more important than to go learn from someone that made $91,000 in a month? What do you got to do that’s more important to go learn from someone who’s number one in Primerica for months and months, right?
Five years in the business, already capital a million dollars. What is more important? See, my team, I say, listen, the only reason why you should miss TBLs is if someone’s in a hospital aside, and it better be you.
You guys, follow me, guys.
Self improving guys. You gotta be consistent with self improving guys every single day. I know Coach Edwar said not every single day, guys, but if you want to get to the next level, guys, it gotta be every single day. It’s 1 hour were a day, guys. Dress for success, guys. You got to always dress like you own the place because one day you can, right, guys? Your camera on. It takes nothing. See, some of you guys are so spoiled. I’ve been in Primerica ten years, see, back in the day, for some of you guys who are veterans driving, right, jason, driving 100 miles in one day was a light day. That was a light day. Driving 100 miles in one day was a light day.
You guys follow me.
And now Primerica. Right. This guy over here making a 500,000 a year on zoom. You can’t turn your camera on. Why? Every single meeting, your camera is not on. But you want to win. You know, it’s so funny. I have people say, well, Martino one turned a camera on is your camera on? My team’s not reading. Are you reading? My team not showing up. Are you showing up? My team’s not recruiting. Are you guys, what are you doing?
You guys follow me.
See? Going to a million, right, with coach Tesla, right? He’s leading from the front. 17 personal recruits, 33,000 guys. People can’t look at him and say, hey, coach, what are you doing? He say, listen, I’m beating all you guys. He’s beating some base shops today, right, guys? Be consistent with closing, guys. In Primerica, you ever had someone go on appointment and you say, hey, how was the appointment? And they say, good, and you look at your phone, you don’t see a notification, right? So, guys, the appointment did not good if you didn’t close.
Guys.
Do we get paid to present, or do we get paid to close?
Guys, some of you guys are professional visitors.
Stop that, right, guys? Stop visiting.
Right, guys?
Close. Learn to close. ABC, always be closing.
Guys.
You got to be consistent with an attitude of gratitude, guys. No one should know what you’re going through. My late father said, listen, 50% of people don’t care about what you’re going through, and other 50% are happy you’re going through it. And people don’t care about what you’re going through while you’re going through it. You got to get through it, not go through it, not go you got to grow through it to get to next level.
Do you guys follow me?
And there’s some things in your life right now that’s being removed. God is removing that to bring something bigger.
You guys follow me.
Can we get an amen for that? Guys, listen, you got to rest at the end, not in the middle. And, guys, whatever your end is, guys, our end, right, talking about it is we want to have 100 direct regional vice president with the ring. 100 direct regional vice president.
Guys.
5000 codes, right?
Guys?
Guys, you got to have a time. Coach Edward always got to say, listen, one day will be the last day you do an appointment.
You guys follow me.
So, guys, you got to be consistent.
Guys.
You got to eliminate your distraction. I love this phrase, guys. And I want you guys to really digest this, right? A distraction is not a distraction until it’s done distracting you. A distraction is not a distraction until it’s done distracting you. Guys, your distraction can be a substance. It can be a place. It can be a website. Sometimes you live with them.
You guys, follow me.
That was too deep. That was too deep, right, guys?
You guys, follow me.
Guys. Guys.
You got to understand, guys. A distraction is not a distraction until it’s done distracting you.
Right, guys?
Guys, you got to learn to say no. Everybody say no. Guys, you got to decide what’s urgent and what’s important. You got to decide what’s urgent, what’s important. Even just now, right? My beautiful girlfriend Veronica. Everybody say, hi, Veronica. Did you like that DJ right in the back, right? She was like, hey, can you grab me a coffee? I said, Babe, I’ll get to you after I speak, right, guys? Is that really urgent? It’s very important. I want her to stay up, right? But guys, we can do that a little bit later. I’m going to do it after. Guys, you got to schedule everything, guys. There’s no such thing as balance. You got to schedule quality time. You got to schedule time for the gym. Schedule your date nights, guys. You guys know, my teammates know. Listen, if it’s not in my schedule, it’s not happening.
Guys.
You got to live and die by your schedule, right? Guys? You got to have a punishment, reward lifestyle, right? Art Williams said, listen, if you don’t do your numbers and in my base shot, especially for the full timers, the F-U-L-L timers, not the fool timers.
You guys follow me?
You all catch that later, right? The full timer. I say, listen, every single week you should be involved in five recruits and 3000 in premium. It would be nice for it to be direct, but be involved in five recruits, 3000 in premium. And if you do that, then Art Williams said in AO Williams way you can take off Friday night, Saturday night.
You guys follow me.
But I see so many people on social media going out zero by zero. How are you comfortable? Where the money coming from? What are you celebrating? Why don’t trick your mind and celebrate doing nothing, right, guys? And last thing I want to leave you guys with guys, listen. Distractions are the death of your dreams happening in slow motion. Guys, stop with the distractions.
Guys.
Winning is everything, guys. I thank God so much. I have amazing parents. My mom raised me amazing, right? But I’m so excited that growing up I didn’t listen to her when she said layton is just a game. You don’t have to win everything, guys. You should want to win everything. Why not?
Guys?
You want to win at life, right? You want winning your fitness life, your spiritual life, your business life. You want to win the bank at the church. You guys are going to want to win everything. Am I right? So God, that’s my time, guys. Thank you guys so much.
