Video Summary

Khamini Leston shares the leadership philosophy behind Team Excellence within Primerica. A former office manager and weekend bartender, she entered the business as a single mother and, within four years, earned her Regional Vice President promotion.

Her message centers on the intangibles of leadership. She emphasizes being the most positive person on the team, especially when others bring negativity. Leaders must understand individual goals and connect them to the larger team mission. Consistent meetings, both virtual and in person, help build trust and genuine relationships.

Khamini stresses the importance of challenging teammates while leading by example. She advises against asking others to do what you are unwilling to do yourself. Empowering teammates means encouraging their ideas, allowing them to grow independently, and giving them recognition publicly.

She teaches that true team building requires shifting the spotlight away from yourself and placing it on developing new leaders. Consistency, clarity, and follow-through build trust, while reinvesting earnings back into the team strengthens long-term growth.

Ultimately, her philosophy is simple: build people like family, grow independent legs, and create a business attractive enough for future leaders to thrive. Through Team Excellence, she is focused on developing women leaders and building a lasting legacy.

I’m so excited. Listen, guys, my name is Kami. Of course. First, we want to thank God, right, for bringing us here safely because we do sell life insurance. So we know today wasn’t promised. Right? So I just want to give God the glory and the honor. My name is Cammie. I’ve been in this company a little bit over four years. My former occupation was an office manager and a bartender on the weekend. Single mom. Right. And we just got promoted to regional vice president last year. Right, Right. So I’m super grateful for this opportunity for my coaches, for Harvey Grahales. Right. And of course, for team excellence. So with my time today, I wanted to talk to you guys a little bit about, you know, just the intangibles of building your team. Right. I’m supposed to have some slides. Wilma. No.

Or I could pull it up on my team excellence. Okay. Oh, there we go. Perfect. Right? So it’s building team. Right. And just teamwork. That’s my son. Hey, Joshi, you could go to the next slide. Okay. Building independent legs. Right. The intangibles of, you know, helping people become leaders. You could click through Am I allowed? Okay. There we go. So you want to be the most positive person on that. You’re the person that your team knows, right. At all times. A lot of times people go through things, so they try to bring you a lot of negativity. So you have to be the most, like, positive person they know all the time. You have to give them positive. Every time they give you negative. You cannot afford to become a negative person. Okay? So that’s the first thing.

The second thing is take time to know their individual goals. Thank you. The big green button. Got it. Take time to know their individual goals and then tie those goals into your team philosophy. You have to know what your teammates are passionate about and what they’re doing this for. Believe it or not, nobody really joins Primerica to sell life insurance. Right. Good. The big green button is not working. Oh, there we go. So meet often. Right on. Zoom. And in person, make sure you’re spending a lot of quality time with your team. Right. Don’t just become, like, this person that’s always talking at them. Spend real time with your team so that they trust you and they love you. Right? Green button. Okay, good. Don’t be afraid to challenge your teammates at all times.

Remember that you are the leader and you’re the example, so always tell them the truth. It is not our job as leaders to pacify teammates and give them a wrong impression. It’s our Responsibility to actually help them become successful. So don’t run away from that. Okay? Now, never ask them to do things that you’re not willing to do. Always lead by example as much as you can, because people really don’t follow a leader that’s not leading from the front. And that’s something that I had to make a big adjustment with in my business as well. Right. Encourage their ideas. Right. Don’t always be the person that has the idea. If a teammate comes to you with an idea, let them try it out.

03:28

Speaker 1

As long as they’re sticking to the principles and it’s legal, let them give it a shot so they can grow into leaders. That’s how they become independent. Take the spotlight off of yourself and place it on your team. If you want to build teams, you have to make people feel like they’re part of the bigger picture. It’s not all about you all the time, like coach always says, right? Give them the credit, you get the cash. Right. And, of course, treat them like family. Right. How would you treat your child? When they come to you with a problem, it’s not always the time to give a lecture. Sometimes you need to give them a hug. And it’s very important for you to know when is the right time to do those things. Right. Give them consistency and clarity.

04:10

Speaker 1

Don’t always move the goal in the sense of if you’re helping them grow, yes. But if you say you’re going to do something, do it. And if you require something of them and they do it, give them the reward that you said you would give them. Don’t keep changing the goal. Right. And most importantly, invest in your team like you would any other business. So we got a nice bonus this month, and we’re looking at that as money that we could invest back into our team. Because if we had a business, a barbershop, a salon, we would have bought more products, right? So you should take that money and that time and invest it back into your team so they can build their teams. Our goal as leaders is to keep growing and making our business more attractive.

04:51

Speaker 1

So the next leader coming up has an attractive business to attract more people, and that’s how you get your team going. Right? So it’s up to us, guys. I’m gonna use my last two minutes to say that, you know, this is a forever thing. Like, we’re gonna be here for a long time, right? Absolutely. We’re here for the long run. So it’s supposed to be fun. You’re supposed to grow through it, go through it. And most importantly, you’re not really just building a team, you’re building a family. So spend a lot of time with them. This is team excellence today. Right. And we’re continuing to grow. We have a mirage in the house. Right. She just got license in May. She she’s already over $11,000 in part time income with Primerica. Right. Went to division leader.

05:35

Speaker 1

We have a Candace in the house as well. Lpn. She took a month off from travel nursing just to focus on Primerica for the first 30 days, put on her district leader contract. Right. We have a Diane in the house, also a district leader. Right. And so we’re continuing to grow and develop the ladies, because these are the this is the future of Primerica. That’s all I got for you guys. Thank you so much.
