Video Summary

In Field Training Is The Game: If They Don’t See It, They Can’t Do It, Charlemont Genestin delivers a direct and experience-driven message on why most people fail—not because Primerica doesn’t work, but because leaders fail to train properly in the field. Drawing from nearly 30 years in the business, Charlemont explains how shifting from a product-focused mindset to a people-development model changed everything. He emphasizes recruiting as the lifeblood of the business, hands-on field training as the key to duplication, and going deep rather than wide to build stability. Through real stories of leadership development, belief-building, and sacrifice, this session challenges Primerica leaders to lead from the front, train relentlessly, and commit fully to long-term growth.

FAQs

1. Why is field training so important in Primerica?
Because people must observe presentations, recruiting, and leadership in action to duplicate them correctly.

2. What does “If they don’t see it, they can’t do it” mean?
It means leaders cannot do the work alone—new recruits need real exposure to learn and gain confidence.

3. Why do most new recruits quit early?
They quit due to lack of training, belief, and understanding of what the business actually requires.

4. What is the biggest leadership mistake discussed?
Doing the work for people instead of training them to do it themselves.

5. What does Charlemont mean by financial distribution?
A model focused on building and developing people rather than relying on personal production alone.

6. Why is recruiting called the lifeblood of the business?
Without recruiting, organizations stop growing and income becomes limited.

7. What does it mean to go deep in an organization?
It means developing leaders multiple levels down, not just focusing on direct recruits.

8. How does belief affect performance?
Belief builds confidence, increases retention, and motivates people to push through challenges.

9. Why should leaders never give up on their people?
Because a leader’s belief may be the reason someone stays and eventually succeeds.

10. What role does sacrifice play in success?
Short-term sacrifice creates long-term freedom and flexibility.

11. Why is daily training emphasized?
Consistent training improves skill, confidence, and overall organizational performance.

12. How does competition help leaders grow?
Competition raises standards and pushes people to perform at higher levels.

13. What separates winners from quitters?
Consistency, discipline, and willingness to pay the price.

14. Why should leaders continually sell the dream?
People stay engaged when reminded why they joined and what’s possible.

15. Is Primerica an easy business?
No—it’s challenging, which is why it rewards those who commit long term.

Thank you. Thank you, Tim. And I’m very excited to be here again. So, you know, it’s amazing because when, like, you know, Dave is talking about these numbers here, this is a dream come true for us. And by the way, so I understand this is an rvp meaning. So, you know, you guys should put your hand together for yourself because being an RVP is a big deal in America. Okay? If you, if you with the numbers, like, you know, they’re Talking about over 330 thousands of people, we quit last year, over 330,000 of people came in for America, said, I want to change my life. Life is great. You don’t understand. Most of them quit right away. So is that because they don’t want to change their life for real? Because they don’t want to pay the price? Would you guys agree?

00:47

You guys work so hard to become a vice president. And I know some of you right now, the year is over. So right now it’s a brand new year. So you feel bad because last year was not good. You carried it on your shoulder here. I want you to know, like, and let it go. There is nothing you can do about it. It’s already happened. So what you’re going to do in 2026 is going to make the difference. Do you guys agree with me? I can relate to you because my story a little bit different. I joined Primerica in 1996. And by the way, April this year is going to make me 30 years in Primerica. 30 years. When I came in this business here, I came here to make a little money.

01:28

I made so many mistakes in this business, which is good for me. 12 years. Took me four years to become a vice president. It took me another nine years to figure these things out. So some of you right now, so you get upset, you know, you don’t feel good because, you know, you didn’t have a great year. I’m here to let you know I can relate to you. I understand what you’re going through, but I. But again, so my mistake could be saving you today. Because when I joined for America here, so I was excited. I said, man, I’m gonna get this thing taken care of right away. And came here, I found out, like, you know, you’re dealing with people. People are not easy to deal with. They say one thing, they do another thing.

02:15

12 years and I was a frustrated IVP making 100,000 on 05. In 06, my income go down. 07, my income go down again. So, again, so I could not figure these things out until Some things happen. Click. So I figured out I was in the wrong business. So I always telling people there are two parameters there. This is my personal opinion. You don’t have to believe it. That’s the two primer out there. Either in prime financial services or you’re in power market distribution. I spent 12 years focused on parameter financial services, which is life insurance. I didn’t know about investment. I do insurance, you see. Shami said life insurance and we do sell some. The most he got me is $72,000 a year. We switch from financial services to financial distribution. Nine years there, they will make a million dollars.

03:12

So that’s what I’m going to talk about. And that’s what I know. Once you make that switch, everybody gonna see it. We stop talking about like, you know, products. We’re talking about people. It’s amazing. It’s amazing. Last year, was that the best year ever for the psychic? Because we focus on recruiting, which is we believe recruiting is the lifeblood of the business that we focus on. So teammate, what I’m gonna do today? So John was talking about the point for you to build a business to pay you a million dollars a year. When I joined Primerica, I saw the things that stick to me. They said, shaman, there are about the four levers you gotta reach number one, you gotta make a decision to become full time. Which is how most all of you guys here full time already.

03:58

The second level says Sharma, you gotta be an rvp. I said, okay, no problem. I’m gonna work on that to get that the third level. So again after you become a vice, you gotta produce some, which is snsd. They say once you become an snsd, so you can make a million dollars a year, so you can become financial independent. So now let me tell you. So none of this thing can happen if you are not focused on this. What I’m talking about right now, field training. Let’s talk about this for a minute. Field training. Well, field training is very important in this business because people have to be able to see what you do and do what you do so they can do it without you.

04:41

When I was driving a taxi and I was working out there very hard every day, 12, 14 hours a day. I know my first 10 hours working is not for me, it’s for the helocop, the company. So they have a system there. So you come in, they give you the numbers, you say to go to work. But they know the most hours you put there is for the company is not for you. Because guess what? All of us working for them. Well, when I came in for America, I said, well, so how the system works, that’s a shamanist. And so you can leverage your hours if you train people or develop people. So guess what? These people go to work that make money. So instead of 24 hours a day, you can have unlimited hours of working.

05:26

I say, I like that you gotta fill train people. So he says here, if you’re gonna, he says here 100% of your time should focus on recruiting. Know that about it. But 90% of your time after you recruit them, guess what you do with them. You got to spend time with them. Filtering them. You got to filter them. So now the mistake that I made in the past, I don’t want you to make it. When I joined this business, when I was focusing on financial services, I didn’t go out there and filtering people. This is how I used to do it. I would put you on the business. You give me the lease, guess what? I take the lease. I don’t need you. So make few phone calls, set up some appointments. You don’t need to be there. I go and close.

06:03

I say you close. You’re not there, but you close. You never see anything, but you close. You. Some of you do that not lying to yourself. Is that right? You say why my people cannot do it? They’re not observing, they’re not there. Well, when we made a decision to change the game. So we said we’re not going to do any presentation until you’re here with us. In fact, the presentation never done without somebody watching you. I got that from John Lavin. He says if you’re doing a presentation like you know, you do it yourself and then you get the list. You have two business. Can you merge it? I said we can’t. We merge it. A life change. The question how many featuring sales do you need to have with the new people coming up?

06:51

Timothy said, in our office we have a system when somebody’s coming in. So six by six is a must. Put your list together, we’re gonna go in the field with you and in 30 days we’re gonna hit the 6006000 sub premium. That’s a pre qualification for district leader. This is the only thing that I know if you’re good or not. If you can put a list together so you have enough people can trust you, believe you. So we can sit down and do six presentations. 10 presentations, you can create six business, you have a problem. Not for America, you have a problem. You have a credibility problem. There’s Nothing wrong with that. Because when I joined this business myself, I didn’t have any credibility in this country. I didn’t have six people to sit down with me.

07:34

But I remember the guy who could me say, sharmo, it’s going to be hard for you because you got to go out and create it yourself. Well, do not waste time with people who don’t have it. If they don’t have it, guess what? Tell them they need to go out there, look for it, tell them what to do, what to say, but do not waste too much time with them because at the end of the day, if they don’t know how to do this business, you’re not gonna go too far with them. Six by six thousand. It’s a must. Once you equip them, what you do with them, you gotta let them in. Everybody’s gonna quit. My mindset, I recruit you today, guess what, you’re gonna quit tomorrow, you’re gonna quit tonight, you’re gonna quit next week.

08:18

It’s just a matter, I don’t know exactly when you’re going to quit, but you’re going to quit. So the question right now, how fast can I keep you going? The more parts you pick up, the more self recruits you do for them, the more likely you take them on the field faster. Guess what, the tougher is going to be for them to quit. Give them a reason for them to stay in the business with you. So if we quit somebody today and then you never do anything for them, guess what? It’s a guarantee they’re going to be dishappy on you see, but this is not something that we think is going. This is a guarantee is going to happen. So many people coming in and they don’t do anything in primer. I say, I was in prime, I said, what is it?

08:59

You know, they have no idea what this business is about. I actually believe it’s your fault. Because if you sit down with them, you get their list at least you recruit people for them. Even they quit, they have an idea what this business is about. Too many people come in and live right away. Number three, we’re talking about 10 to 20 wide. So again, so many people come in here. That’s a coach, man. I want to explore these things. Do you have only two, three people direct to you? It’s not going to work. It’s a large numbers, but if you notice you’re talking about wide, you got to go wide first. Don’t go deep. Let’s talk about this for a second. The deep, so we’re talking about usually about six deep. Okay? Today, my business, 60% of my business came from one leg.

09:47

Well, where that leg came from. Well, I recruited a guy when I just started this business. His name is Alfred Medor. Alfred was in primary and insurance business before me. He was working for another insurance company. So World Life Insurance companies out there. The guy was so good, he. He got all the trophies. But they give him six months to pass the life insurance license. He could not pass it. They said, you fired. And I know him. He’s a Jehovah eyewitness, and we used to study together. And then he said, man, I love insurance. But unfortunately, they kicked me out. I can’t sell insurance anymore. I said, well, I can help you. He said, what you mean? I said, I can’t help you pass the test, but you got to promise me you’re going to stay with me.

10:30

He says, I’m a man of my word. If you help me get my license, I stay with you. I said, no problem. I took Alfred, put him on my lap. I make sure he get his license. He passed. And guess what? Guess what? He keep his word for real, you know? So he brought me a guy named Jonah Dibi. A young man, very young guy, Jehovah, eyewitness. Also, this guy came. He said he can’t talk. He said, you know what? I love what you guys do here. He keep prospecting people everywhere. He bought me a guy named Jean Marc. Later on, Joe says, you know what? I can’t do this. I’m too busy. I got other things to do, but, you know, I’m out. I said, no problem. Thank you for the ride. Jean Marc, stand the business with me.

11:13

Jean Marc is a salesman. He’s not a recruiter. He said, I don’t like recruiting. I don’t want to be part of this. But guess what? Any competition you put out there about insurance, I’ll take it. And this guy, every weekend we go out to eat. Because every time he close business, you know, he’s number one. We took him out to eat, almost booked me. Okay, seriously, it’s good. It’s good, but it’s in his church, he has a guy named Gerard Sensilier. He said to Gerard, this man, I’m making so much money, I don’t even know what to do with it. Jaraz said, where? He says, I’m going to meet you, Sharman. So let’s get together with Sharman. Remember Alfred number one, Jonadab, number two. Is that right? Jean Marc, number three. Here goes. Girard number four. Girard come. Guess what?

11:58

Few months after, you know, salespeople, they come, they sell. After that, they’re tired. Yes or no? Jean Marc get tired. Guess what Jean Marc do leave. Boom. With later chargeback. You know what I’m talking about? Well, Jean Hack came in the business. Jung is a smooth guy, church guy, very quiet, not up salesman like Jean Marcus. Now they recruited like Jean Marc, like Joe, none of them. But when Jean Marc quit the business, I said, meanwhile, I’m going to quit. I said, gerard, don’t quit, man. This guy, none of them good. None of them good. He says, really? I said, I know them. They never finished anything. You got to be storyteller. I don’t know about this. I said, they’re no good. They’re no good. They’re no good. J said, I believe you that no. I said, they’re no good. I stay with you.

12:48

Jerrah stay. Now making $100,000 a year. Let’s put Gerard in the house. But guess what? Gerard brought a guy named Benzilier. Basili came and I do the presentation. Benzilier said, no, coach, this is too high class. I can do this, but I know a guy. I said, who that? He says, his name is Senate, just come from Haiti. He’s hungry. I said, willie. I said, how do you? He said, well, he’s the English white. Now he’s in English class. I said, buen him? Buen said, I am. When Sinai came, Sinai asked me two questions. Is it legal? I said, yes. He said, do you make money? I said, yes. And I showed him, boy. He said, get out of my way. Today look at it. Secretary General made about $1.2 million. He produced another guy making about 900,000. Is that right?

13:37

60% of my income came from who? How deep is that? Six deep. So what about if I was not focused on deep, what would happen today? So what’s the lesson in this? As an rvp? So everybody that bring people in your business, your job is to go deep and dig and dig. Is that right? I know you probably say shama, too much work. You work with all these people? I work with all of them. Let me tell you, Gerard could not sell send out a business because he was part time. When Senator asked me if I make some money, at that time, I make some money. Do you understand? If he asked Gerard that same question, Gerard probably could not answer it. But as an ivp, do you check with everybody in the organization?

14:29

Do you know it’s a blessing when somebody brings somebody to you. Because winners, no winners. Yes or no. So when you see a winner, you can tell because the question they ask you, the way they move, the way they talk, say not work different than everybody that I know. This is how say I work. That’s a winner right there. Is that right? So, no, seriously, I’m telling you. You know, you probably don’t pay attention. Listen, you’re about to lose an IVP right now without you knowing your organization. Monday, somebody gonna bring you a superstar. You better open your eyes. This is the one I’ve been looking for it. And build relationship with that person. See what’s gonna happen. Go deep. Don’t be afraid to go deep. The next one. Division leader. I love division leader position.

15:26

Because once you become a division leader in this business right now, you really separate yourself from everybody else. We have a system. When somebody passes a test, they become a district. We’re proud of you, blah, blah, stuff like that. But once you become a division leader, this is a real talk. We have a meeting with you one one, especially with your spouse. Together. We ask you questions. What do you want out of these things here? What is it that you want? Do you know? Once you become a division leader, six months from now, nine months from now, 12 months from now, you can change your life completely. You can become a vice president if you’re willing to make some sacrifices. So when you sit down with them, you’re going to find out what they want.

16:11

Most people who join Primer want to change their life. You know what they want? They want somebody that said, I believe in you. Somebody said, I can work with you. Somebody says, you know what? I can take you where I am right now. They need that from you as a vice president. Take time for them. Teach them this business. I’m telling you. So sometimes you need a little word that you said to them, saved their life. It’s not about, we couldn’t premium all the time. Well, my upline in this business was a vice president quit this business when I was rational leader quit for America. And I told him, do not quit because I’m about to do something big. He says, big talker. Nothing’s gonna happen. You are a taxi driver. He wed me one way because I was young, hungry, wants to win.

17:08

But thank God John’s so smart. John doesn’t recruit people for me. John doesn’t. I don’t know the last time. I never do any presentation. John never did anything good for him. But I’ll tell you what John did for me. John put confidence on me. Every time John sees me, he said, man, you are a superstar. You’re going to do something big here. And that’s all I wanted. Somebody believe in me. Somebody said, shalmu, you’re going to be big here. So listen. If you see me right, I mean, it’s amazing because people see me right now. But listen, 20 years ago, you saw me, you know, I said, this guy can’t win. He cannot be national sales director, a million dollars earner. I don’t look like one, I don’t talk like one, I don’t be a black one. But my insight was big.

17:55

I knew what I wanted. One of the question people ask me all the time, Shannon, how do you move from taxi driver to become. Listen, listen. I knew I was gonna be wealthy in this country. Let me tell you why. Because since I was in my country, I came here when I what a vision for me to work for myself, to have my business, not to work for somebody else. My sister was before me in this country. When I came out, stay in my sister’s house. She fight with me every single day. I said, you are wrong. You are not on the right track. Because work for somebody, that’s not going to take you anywhere. I didn’t know any better. But guess what? I knew one thing. Once you have your own business, your life is great.

18:38

Just to set your own time is best. Yes or no? Yes. To wake up this morning to be somewhere that you don’t want to be is something’s big. Yes or no? You got people every day right now. Come to your beach. You don’t know them, but inside they’re big. He’s not going to cost you anything to work to them straight, give them a handshake, say, I believe in you. You can be big here. That’s all you got to say. Walk. It’s like you plant a seed, let that seed grow to see what’s gonna happen. That’s your million dollars earning right there, Division leader. And again, so we focus on that a lot once you become one. So the next.

19:24

The next move for you, when you’re gonna be an rvp, when you’re gonna sign your contract, when you build a business, we’re gonna change your life. We’re gonna be financial independence. That’s all the conversation is about. So what you got to focus on? So to qualify to be one. So you got to be able to do fantastic presentation. You got to be able to know the competition. You got to be able to recruit people who have no problem we expect you to do that. What else we expect you to do? You know, it’s crazy. In my organization we have people so good at getting referrals, which is like, you know, they can take one client and turn it to 20 clients if they want to, but that’s not good enough. Can you take one week?

20:10

Would turn into 20 workwoods, because the 20 clients you get paid, it’s over. But the 20 requests that you do, guess what? Cannot multiply to 100 sales. So again, so, I mean, as an ivp, you know when the division leader is willing to train. So you don’t let anybody go out and filter people because if they don’t do it the right way, it’s gonna mess it up. Number seven, make sure like, you know, your entire organization understand that, you know, the number one job for everybody, that responsibilities are train people. Train, train, train. Never stop. We got training every pretty much day in our organization. We train a lot because you understand if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re not gonna make it here. Train, train, train all the time. The more they know, trust me, the more they will do.

21:06

Competition, we cope with a lot. So again, so again, like, you know, when you have your people in your organization, guys, well, guess what? Have confidence in them. Let them know they can win. The state of Florida is wide open. Wide open. District leaders, division leaders, regional leaders, they’re all wide open. But this is what I know. If you have three district leaders and your bishop, you got three division leaders, you got three regional leaders and your bishop, you prepare all of them to be number one in the state of Florida, One of them going to be number one. Let me say it again. If you have a three district leader and say, you know what? I got three district leaders, I want each one of you guys to be number one in the state. We got three divisions. You say the same thing.

21:54

Tuition ideas do the same thing. Guess what? Eventually one of them will be number one. Because this is what I know. If you keep putting that in their mind, you keep talking about it, one day it’s going to become reality. Actor says, you know, anybody get bit, you know, it doesn’t matter who you are. It could be like, you know, making 300,000 premium, 300 kuts on a month. It doesn’t matter. Somebody probably started with 10 by 10. If they keep going after you one day they’re gonna catch you. We are so fortunate when the state of Florida, which is one of the best in the company, we can compete Is that right? Choose somebody to compete with. The day you beat them, your life changed. There was a guy, were competing with him. This guy changed my life. We were competing with him.

22:47

We were a little boy, were competing. He’s always beat us all the time, especially in recruiting. That’s his game with my little team. I said, one day we’re gonna get him, you know, Dave, at least one day we knock him out. It was not a good day though. We knocked him out. Since that day, our life changed forever. Teammates, this thing works. Don’t be afraid to compete. Don’t come back. Say, man, I mean, all these people win all these things. I got nothing. So of course you’re supposed to get mad, go back to work. We’re coming back again. Yes, yes. You gotta give yourself a chance to win here. Standard, excellent final field trainers, six nights a week. Guys, listen, I believe for America. It’s a place to go to work. Too many people say, man, shaman, I’m taking vacation. Shaman, I’m doing this.

23:51

You can do all these things after you build for America, you know, especially right now if you’re full time and you’re an IVP’s. You are here right now. You don’t produce any IVP’s yet. This is, this is the time for you to go to work. Too many people right now complaining. Too many people say, well, this thing is tough. It’s not tough because you’re not working. Your schedule is not good. You have John Lavin’s schedule. You know what I’m talking. John play golf. He checked his wife out for one month vacation, you understand? Every holiday he can do it because he got about over 100 IV pieces. All right, this guy said, you know, the whole Haitian, half of Haitian in the company under John Lavin. Is that right? So he can do all this, Dave, okay? Because we signed the insurance dev deal.

24:40

Do the investment, yes or no. And John, stand the middle like this, I’m a king. But you haven’t built it yet. Go like yourself in for three to five years. And by the way, listen, listen, please. You know, I hope you take, you know what I’m going to tell serious right now. If you married, you have wife, you have kids, you don’t have a big organization yet. Go home and tell your wife she’s not going to see you for three to five years. You’re going to be out of the house for three to five years. Go tell your husband, you know, if you are the IVP’s one honey, you’re not going to see me that often for three to five years. What’s going to happen? Well, I’m going to wake up a little bit early.

25:24

I’m going to go out there, do my thing and I’m going to come back home late. But after three to five years, I’ll be back here in the house 24 hours. Well, that’s what we did. I told my wife, you’re not going to see me for three to five years. She didn’t know. She said, oh, no. I said, yeah, let me go today. She said, man, can you go out? Can you go out? Give me some time. The business is built. No, seriously, the business is built. We just came from Dubai in November, spend about 15 days there. We go to Dr. For another 12 days, you know, so again. So we’re going out again. You know, we’re going again, again. Because we built this business. Yes or no? You know, once you go to work yourself, you set the space for the team.

26:15

Instead of begging people want to be you. People want to work with you. Too many people say, well, my team, my team. Your team does exactly what you ask them to do. You’re an RVP or you are full time. The whole month is over. You about one. We could for the whole month, 3,000 sub premium. And you say, well, my team. You don’t have a team. Go to work. Go get busy yourself. I know probably say, sean, that’s not what I want to hear. I understand that’s not what. That’s what you need to hear. You hear me? Unless you want to stay broke now. I’m telling the truth. People can lie to you. Say man, Be funny. Say, man, you all right? You all right? You know. No, he’s not all right. It’s not all right.

27:04

Because the company pays so much money, you make the little yourself. I even bought some refresh course, you know, again. So everybody’s gonna go through some like, you know, stuff in life. Check up and eliminate shortcuts. Okay? Stress phenomenon again. Acoustic. Sell the dream. Sell their dream. I’m a guy, I always sell the dream with my teammates. Always have their dream. Remind you why you join Prior America, why you join this business, why you are here. Send attention. I was telling you so I know said I put it while he said, shaman, you know what? I’m going to come here and build this business, make so much money, I’m going to go back to my country. Every time his business. You slow Down. I said, man, you’re going to spend more years in this country. Didn’t you say you want to go back home?

27:48

Yes. Well, you need to wear you up. Do you know the dream? Do you know what’s going into your people mind? Sell them the dream. Now, as my organization, we don’t keep anything secret. Listen, you’re going to make so much money, you got to save so much money, you got to make all of RVP is going to be a cash millionaire. That’s the. If you are not saving a million dollars cash, you’re in trouble with Charlmont. In fact, a big book was $100,000 book. I have a book. We’re going to call it a millionair. You don’t have to make a million dollars a year, but you got to save a million dollars a year for your life. Too many people work like, you know, make some money and retired book. Is that okay? Is that okay?

28:43

And they love it because we talk about right now. Got about four of them already make save over a million dollars. Two, three make several million dollars already. And the book just started. If a few trainers right now is a few trainers goes into a less slump, guess what you got to do. Your job is to make sure, okay, you sell them the dream again. So start the whole process again. Don’t give up on your people. Never, never give up on your people. Never, never. They can give up on themselves. But you as a leader should never give up on them because their hope is in your hand. And the last one here, listen. So one thing that I noticed in this business, you got to always prepare your new recruits when they come into business. This business is a tough business.

29:31

Paramedica is not an easy business. It’s a tough business. And I heard people say, man, you don’t have to do much. You just come in here, you’re gonna be well. Don’t lie to people. That’s not true. For America is a tough business. Don’t you ever apologize to tell people it’s tough because I love it because it’s tough. Because if it was so, if it’s not tough, everybody’s coming, doing it. Primeka would never pay me that kind of money. It’s tough. This is the reason why most people come and quit. This is the reason why people started and they stopped because they refused to pay the price. But if you do pay the price, great things gonna happen for you. My question to you right now. My question to you right now.

30:11

Are you willing to go back to work in your home and do your work so you can get the money. So listen. Do you guys want to go back to work and get the money? Because this is what happened. Primerica has the money. Yes or no? They will never tell us. They don’t have any money. But 2026, you have to make a decision. The money is not going to come to you if you don’t go to work. I love you guys. Let’s go and do some things. Big thank you.
